The essay analyses men’s and women’s choices in the labour market and care work in different national contexts. Starting from the prem-ise that there is an ongoing change in the condition of parenthood and fatherhood, the analysis considers the differences between Euro-pean countries in the compatibility between work and care of children both for men and women, and particularly men’s capabilities and right to care work. Improving Private Care Work

In the last ten years Italy has seen an exponential growth in private care work, a sector that is to a great extent unregulated, marked by misinformation, uncertainty of labour relations, little correspondence between supply and demand, and dynamics of domestic segregation. In the absence of a national policy on non-self-sufficiency there has been a proliferation of regional and local services to support this sector.
